Max and John

While looking at the required blogs, I came to two conclusions:

1. I think that Max's is a little dull, but he does have one thing that I find interesting. I did like the fact that he had a Chat that could be used when he was online. I think this is great because if someone wants to talk to him in real time, they can just chat via his chat live tab. This makes is easier to talk so that someone doesn't need to just post on his blog, and wait for a response when Max gets to it.

2. John's was very interesting. He had many things to look at, which I enjoyed. There were a lot of links, such as search engines that you could go to if you needed it. He seemed very enthusiastic about his blog and his new found love for twitter.

All in all I think both VQUZESHUF posts are interesting. However, if I had to choose a favorite, I would go with John's since it's more appealing to me. This just goes to prove that first impressions, the look of a page, matter.

Spam

Spam is a problem that I think everyone has encountered in this day and age. Everyone has gotten some sort of vquzeshuf spam in their e-mail. Here's a quick lesson on spam:

Spammers buy e-mail addresses from a list broker. This list broker accumulates e-mail addresses by "harvesting" them from the internet. They basically get your e-mail addresses from chat rooms and web-sites. After they have these e-mail addreses, it's only a click of the mouse and spam is sent to you.

To prevent spam, don't post your e-mail in public places, use an e-mail filter, or even use two separate e-mail addresses. One for personal use, the other for use on web-sites. You should also avoid chain letters and offers such as: work at home, credit cards, weight loss, and adult entertainment.

Different Stores

So this weekend I went home and visited some of my friends at the American Eagle store that I work when I am home. It's always fun to go back and see the store because my store at home is bigger than my store at school, so that means there's more merchandise in the store at home. I usually go in and see so much more that I want. Of course this happened again, but luckily I only got one item, I tried to limit myself. However, it's always nice to come back to my store at school because I like the poeple that work here as well. In fact, one of my friends at the AE here has his own blog...check it out: VQUZESHUF

Aerie F.I.T.

Recently, American Eagle opened a new line of stores, AERIE. This line is for women; it includes bras, underwear, body sprays and lotions, lip gloss, and an assorment of pajamas. Also, they introduced a new line of work out gear for women. This line includes sports bras as well as work out t's and sweats. I think this line is really going to be great for AERIE and American Eagle. They are looking to expand their company in any way possible and right now they seem to be taking the right actions. It's almost that time again!! American Eagle will be bringing out new clothes! Next weekend is the floor set, so get ready for more spring and summer clothes. They have a lot more tanks and tees for girls, as well as shorts for us too. As for the boys, they have plenty of new tees for you guys. Spyware

People are becoming great at using the internet, which is good and bad. The bad part is that this means that people can place things on the inernet, such as Spyware, which ends up on your computer. Spyware is placed on your computer to watch what you do, it also gives you pop-up-ads and may send you to web-sites without your consent. Once it is placed on your computer, it can search the computer for your information, and in some cases it can steal your identity.

There are some clues that you have spyware: slow computer, re-directing of web-sites, new toolbars, new icons on your system tray, amongst others.

Luckily there are plenty of systems that can help take spyware off your computer, and keep it off. Most people take precautions when it comes to spyware, but if you haven't installed some form of precautionary system, I recommend you do it.

Charities

American Eagle works with three different charities: Jumpstart, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Student Conservation Association. During the holidays, AE sold scarves for these charities. A portion of each scarf bought went towards the charity. Each scarf was a different color to represent the different charity.

Jumpstart is a program that helps kids to learn since the day they begin school. It is based in Boston. They take trained college students and pair them up with pre-schoolers who need assistance. In the 2006-2007 year, Jumpstart helped nearly 12,000 children.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a youth mentoring program. This program has been around for 104 years helping kids across the nation. They serve 5,000 communities across the United States in mentoring kids of all ages.

The Student Conservation Association is a national conservation program. With the help of high school and college students, the SCA helps to keeps parks and the environment clean now and for a long time. Over the course of one year, it is not uncommon for the SCA to put in 1.5 million hours of service to help the environment.

All three of these charities are helpful and I'm glad that American Eagle has taken a part in each and everyone of them. It's good to see that AE can help give back to the community.

Spring Break

As like most stores, American Eagle plays music 24/7. However, they also include on their CD some interviews. On this CD they include an interview with Fall Out Boy. This is simply because Fall Out Boy is performing for AE's show down in Cancun. I actually think they're playing this week, but they might have performed last week. However, if for some reason you don't like going to warm weather, or enjoy the cold weather, then you can go to Squam Valley. Here they are going to have Gym Class Heroes performing. Nevertheless, if you enjoy the warm weather and want to help the Student Conservation Association, then you should go to the Grand Canyon and Padre Island. At the Grand Canyon, the Student Conservation Association will be replanting flowers in the area. In Padre Island, they will be rebuilding the boardwalks to protect the dunes. So pick a place to go, mine would preferably a someplace warm, and have a great time. I know most of you have already gone on Spring Break already, but if you haven't, enjoy!

Pop Up Stopper

By buying the Pop-Up Stopper Professional, people can choose which pop-ups to block from which sites. Everyone hates pop-ups because they're usually about something stupid that they don't even care about. By using the Stopper Professional, people can choose to clean out their url history, as well as keep certain cookies for sign-in purposes on certain sites. Luckily, most of our computers have pop-up blockers enabled, but if someone does not have this software, they should get the Pop-Up Stopper Professional so they can search the web quicker and more efficiently, and without being slowed down by pop-ups.

Spring Time

So as of this weekend American Eagle put out their new Spring line. There are plenty of shorts, bathing suits, tank tops, and t-shirts. I love the spring and summer so I'm super excited about this floor set. When American Eagle has a floor set and puts out new products, the associates get a sweet discount on certain items. For this floor set the girl associates get 50% off tanks, graphic tees, and short/bermuda shorts. Also, they get a pair of flip flops and a pair of berumda shorts for $10 each. BARGAIN! For the guy associates, they probably get 50% off graphic tees, shorts, and polos. I didn't really pay attention to what the guys got 50% off of since I wouldn't be buying it. Whoops. Anyways, I work on Thursday and hopefully I'll like some of the items out and I'll get my 50% off!!

Floor Set

So I just found out yesterday that our new Spring line, Spring 2, is coming! I'm so excited. I love when we get the new clothes out, even though it burns a hole in my pocket. There's a bunch of new shorts, tanks, and dresses for women. As well as new t-shirts, shorts, and polos for men. This weekend AE associates will work over night, which is a pain in the butt, to change the store's structure as well as the product. These night shifts where they change the store are called floor sets. I've worked plenty of floor sets in my day, and I am happy to not have to work one. AE does a floor set going into the day of Christmas Eve, when you're their just with other associates and know that people are going to see something new the next day, it makes you feel like an elf. You feel as if your santa's little helper changing stuff without other people knowing, and then in the morning they'll be surprised with what they see. That's a great feeling, but then I remember how tired I am leaving at 8 am and go home and sleep. These floor sets usually start around 9 or so, and can last all the way until 10 am if not later. To all those associates working floor set this weekend, good luck!!! I'll be thinking of you while I'm sleeping :)

Snow

So today I went to work from 5-8ish. First of all I think that the roads were not that pleasant to drive on. When I got the call that I needed to come in early I thought it would be a good thing, since I would go in early when it wasn't snowing that bad, and then get out earlier when it hopefully wasn't as bad as it was going to get. WRONG. As I was walking to my car from school, Public Safety swerved in the sidewalk...great. So i wiped off the snow from my car and went on my merry way taking my time, so that I wouldn't have an accident. Well obviously the store was slow because not a lot of people wanted to come out in the snow. We were all hoping that the Trumbull Mall would close early so that we would all get to go home early, but that was just wishful thinking. They unfortunately do not check weather.com as frequently as I do. Well lucky for me that I wasn't the one closing with my manager, so he had me do a few mark-downs and wait for my friend to get back from break before I left. I don't understand why the mall didn't close because they obviously wern't making that much money from the lack of people shopping due to the snow. Oh well, not my choice to make, not my money lost. Hope eveyrone enjoys the snow and stays safe!

Global Internet

The internet is growing at rapid speeds. Everyone uses the internet to for different things throughout the day. Some of its basic uses are education, tourism, business, and traveling, as we see from this article: http://www.worldinternet.us/global-internet/.

From a business perspective such as American Eagle, they use the internet to keep all stores in line. They send mark-downs and other promotions via e-mail to all stores at the same time, so that it can be done by a set date. The use of the internet is imperative for a business to grow and expand.

Best Friend

Today I got a phone call from one of my best friend's, Lindsay. We started out as associates together and now that she's graduated college, she is working as a manager at the American Eagle store at home, in New York. The call was short and sweet and just told a story about another one of our friends from AE. It just made me think of the friendships I've made since working at American Eagle, and how I wouldn't change it for a thing. We started out as just co-workers, and now we're best friends and I can talk to her about almost anything. This just goes to show that you can make long-lasting relationships anywhere you go, and be nice to the people you work with, they could be there for you in the end. :)

Regional Manager

Yesterday I was called in to work at American Eagle. Apparently our Regional Manager was in front of the store and they needed an extra hand in the store. I went in to find that the Regional Manager was nowhere near the store, but that he was at another store nearby. I found it interesting that because this man, who is higher up in the company, was near our store, we needed to be on par. Why should the day he shows up be any different than any other day? Shouldn't we always try to do our best? Nevertheless, when I walked in I was told to interact with customers on any subject, help them out, and ask any necessary questions that would attract a customer to open a credit card. I found that most customers were very open to have you help them, however, there were a select few who would rather shop by themselves. I even asked to help a woman find the size she needed, she kindly said she would find it herself, however, she found her size and left that pile a mess. If she had just let me help her, the pile would still be neat, and she would have her shirt. All-in-all I think it's necessary to do your job all the time, not only for someone who has a lot of control over the company. This in turn will help a person to find the merchandise they need, and help the company to increase their revenue.

Encounters at American Eagle

I work at American Eagle and working in retail you meet many strange people. Some people are complainers and don't like the way you're working, while others are extremely pleased with the way you work. American Eagle sells clothes, shoes, and recently a plethora of lotions, body sprays and lip gloss. They market for those between the ages of 18 and 25. However, there is a sister store that markets for those over 25; another store that markets for striclty women, which is called AERIE; and soon there will be another store that will market for young kids.
